SPELL EFFECT PATTERNS: Cantrips & Orisons

All 0-level spells

By Dale Thurber

Ever wonder if your Sleep spell caught that last goblin but there was disagreement between you and a DM or player?

Ever experienced a stoppage in game play over an agonizing, time-consuming spell lookup in the Player's Handbook?

Get clearer results and faster answers by using Spell Effect Patterns (SEPs). These are an exciting new way for DMs and spellcasting players to 'see the results" of the spells characters cast, and to lessen lookup time in reference books.

Scaled for use with miniatures, these handy printouts answer the questions of "Who/what does my Burning Hands spell affect?", "What's the area of my Fireball?" and "How is my Detect Poison spell targetable?", among others. And they do it quickly, and in the coolest visual way possible (barring holographic explosions!!!)

Features:

  • Full-color, artistically-designed, and made for use with miniatures - cool!
  • Color-coded ? each spell effect is outlined in a color which tells its school of magic ? a handy mnemonic device.
  • Made to Scale -1 inch = 5 feet, the scale for almost all D&D miniature campaigns.
  • Info-packed - Consult important spell information on the SEP while you use it!
  • Customizable ? players can cut out the patterns to best utilize them during play
  • Durable - can be printed on cardstock and/or laminated for greater durability
  • Markable - If laminated, can be written on using dry- or wet-erase markers.
  • Spellbook Alternative ? The patterns can be used as an alternative to a spellbook, and in most instances, referencing the Player's Handbook.
  • SEPs include patterns for different caster levels ? for example, a Ray of Frost cast by a 1st level caster is 5 inches (25 feet range), whereas the same spell cast by a 2nd-3rd caster is 6 inches (range of 30 feet).
  • Each pattern has the full System Reference Document spell stat block and spell description included for your reference, and are in a block of text that can be cut and pasted to a 3?x5? card.

Benefits:

  • Smoothes the flow of combat by presenting a visual representation, aiding the DM and players to better comprehend and remember a spell's effects.
  • Creates exciting visual spellcasting.
  • Allows quicker calculation of where a spell effect happens, and who or what is affected
  • Speeds play by minimizing lookups in reference books.
  • Enhances the use of miniatures.

This package contains 53 spell effect patterns and spell cards. All o-level spells are included.

Take your tabletop games to a higher level.

Cantrips and Orisons are available separately if so desired, but buying both together in this deal saves you a $1.00.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
